19. Do not forget the employment or withdraw of power, the extension or contraction of the body, the swift or leisurely application of technique
All that is being stated here is the rule of hard and soft.
Knowing when to throw fast or slow, knowing how hard to hit and when and where to hit. Knowing how to move and when to move and at what speed and what time is something that is only learned with time and study.
Our kata tries to teach that but at the same time its someone else's speed and time. We have to develop our own way or TAO in the martial arts.
When you master the control of your body you can generate great force with little movement and develop great control even when throwing blind techniques.
If you always throw hard such at people who study Muay Thai I promise your body will not hold up over time. If you always throw soft such as Tia Chi you will question your ability to use your MA when called upon.
A combination of hard vs soft, fast vs slow, linear vs curricular must be developed to reach your complete understanding.
