Taikyoku Sandan - means first cause number 3
As said above its a simple kata for younger students but thats not to say older students can not get a lot out of training this kata.
Taikyoku Sandan is a bit different and you can see the transition between it and Heian Shodan because of the introduction of the back stance on lines 1 and 3. You also get to use the outside block for the fist time. Even though the outside block is learned early on its not seen in the Heian kata until Heian Nidan so it makes since the Master Funakoshi would include it in the Taikyoku series for beginners and younger students.
