3. Karate Stands on the side of Justice
The third Niju Kun reflects the idea that karate training is good. All to often martial arts gets a bad name because all people see is fighting. In reality we fight very little. In the 13 years I have been training I have been in ZERO fights. Before that time I had been in TWO.
As Martial Arts we should learn the difference in right and wrong. What is a just cause and what is not. Martial Arts is very closely linked to the ideas of Bushido in where honor is the most sought after quality. The way of Samurai or Warrior has a great appeal t the romantics that train in Martial Arts.
There are many things you hear while tarining like there is no first attack or karate is about defense only and so on. The one thing you take out of that as to know if you are using karate the right way is the idea that its only used for Justice. If you attack first if you are out to hurt someone without cause then yo have broken this kun. However if you are protecting the weak and the helpless or protecting yourself, you land your family then justice is on your side.
