9. Karate is a lifelong pursuit
From the first day you step into a dojo till your last breath karate becomes a part of you. You will never be perfect at anything. If you are lucky enough to do kata perfectly just wait till you do it the next time or a few weeks later. No matter how much I train there will always be things I can be better at. There are many things I have been showen that I have long forgotten. Only a few will ever take karate to this highest level.
Many people think well I made this belt or that belt. Or I have trained 2 years or 5 years I am good enough. Well you may be good but true leering in karate takes place after you become a black belt. Its not that you find new moves but things start to come together as one and you understand the reason why that you did not as a Kyu grade.
How much we let karate become a part of us is up to each one of us. I honestly can't say there is any aspect of my life that I don't rely on karate to make it better, School, Work, Football, Family, Church, Friendship, etc. Karate has made me a better person in everything I have done. I also thin it has make me successful in those things I have done too.
The Manners, the discipline, the respect, the honor, the fearlessness, the pride, the joy, the restraint, the emotion, the hard work and the time it takes to and teaches are the true lesson of karate that most don't realize.
The Samurai talked of Bushido. The code that ment honor above all else and Death before disgrace. I don't expect anyone to commit sepeku but Bushido is aim and the goal that we should try to live for and karate is the path that leads us to that fulfillment.
All we can take with us in death is our honor and pride and that people say so and so was a Good man or woman.
