11. Karate is like boiling water; without heat it returns to its tempid state
As we have stated above in both Niju Kun 8 and 9 Karate goes beyond the dojo and is a life long study. Both of those lead us into Niju Kun #10.
You must constantly train and study to be good at karate. You can not say I know this kata and move on. You can not say I know how to throw this kick and never train it again. You can not say my teacher can not teach me any more and stop your training.
Once ones starts karate it becomes a part of them. How much of a part of them depends on the heat you apply to it. You will read stories about the old Masters training three times a day 7 days a week. In the world today with jobs, school, family, etc thats a bit unreal. However I would hope one could physically train at leas twice a week. If they are unable to do physical training do to injury they should or could do mental training by reading, meditating, breaking down kata application, or asking questions.
Training can take different forms and you don't have to alway put a Gi on to train. Sometimes a simple stretch may be enough. Other things you could do such as run, hit the bag, lift weights, or any physical exercise. All of that will aide you in your karate training. However you will need time to work on your basics, kata and sparring as well.
Simply stated the more you train the better you will become. The great thing about karate is anyone of any age, sex, race, handicap, disability, religion, etc. can advance based upon how much they work at it. Your not given anything your earn it all based on what you do and how hard you do it.
Kind of like America.
